Videography versus Photography

Videography vs. photography

When planning an event like a wedding, bar mitzvah or corporate function, many will consider hiring a professional photographer. However they may overlook a videographer, or at least rush around trying to find one at the last minute. Perhaps this is because photographers have been around a lot longer making them an 'automatic choice'. However professional videography offers many advantages over photography and Bloomsbury Films is here to show that a videographer should be first on your list! Here's why.

1. Photography is static and fragmented. It is the equivalent of the silent movie era against the background of modern media-rich technology. Pictures are mute and fragmented slices of time, however videography captures the complete rich abundance of life - both moving and audible.

2. Videography provides a much more comprehensive record of you event. A photographer will at best only present you with a few hundred images that you select from. Our film productions feature hundreds of thousands of carefully edited images giving you a much fuller retrospective.

3. Videography is more creative than photography. While photographers may rely on contrived poses and fake set-ups, videography is more natural, fluid and spontaneous. Video also provides a better visual narrative whilst the potential for creativity in post-production is reflected by the considerable amount of time we spend on it!

4. Video tells your story better than photography. Now ask yourself - would you rather go to the cinema and watch a movie or sit at home flicking through the publicity stills? Our fully edited films provide a proper story that is entertaining, enthralling and fulfilling. Pictures you can flick through in minutes.

5. Video stills will supersede photographic stills. The quality of video is growing fast making it increasingly viable to use video stills is place of photographic stills. Some predict this shift in technology may eventually make photography redundant, so think about what you want to look back on.

6. Photography offers poor value for money. Just consider for a moment what photographers charge for what you get and then compare this to the effort that goes into video production and what you get out of it. Like us, you might conclude that photography actually represents quite poor value for money!

So, why do people frequently book photographers before videographers? Frankly we don't understand either, but we do hope this help sets the record straight. We predict that by 2018 demand for professional videography will outstrip photography and so we hope that this articles enables visitors to our site to prioritise their choices ahead of time!
