Mengxuan & Yizun’s Wedding Video

Project: Wedding Video
Package: Cinematic Short Film
Categories: Chinese Wedding Videos, London Wedding Videos

Background

Over the years we’ve established something of a reputation for creating unique and imaginative wedding videos for Chinese couples. Indeed a few years ago we even appeared in a BBC One programme featuring our cinematic Chinese wedding videos. One presumes it was our distinctive portfolio that attracted Mengxuan and Yizun to book us and we were delighted to flex our imaginations on their special day. The couple booked our cinematic short film package with an extra cinematographer for half a day to cope with the logistics of filming at three locations.

Wedding Video Production

The wedding took place on a crisp November day and began with coverage of the bride and groom’s preparations at The Sloane Club. As with many Chinese weddings this part of the day included the traditional ‘door games’ where the groomsmen are put through hilarious challenges! Afterwards on their way to the wedding ceremony, the couple wanted to pay a visit to Laduree in Harrods where they first met. This was a very touching moment and we were glad to be able to focus on this in telling their story. The wedding ceremony itself was fairly intimate and it was a delight to capture the reaction on Yizun’s face as Mengxuan entered the room. Back at The Sloane club there was a wedding reception and banquet which included speeches from both bride and groom. After a change of outfit by the bride, the pair impressed everybody with a very elegant first dance. It was a very graceful wedding all round and it was the greatest of pleasure capturing it.

Behind the Scenes

Our wedding cinematographer Jack took the lead on this project and was keen to use the new 24mm f/1.4 Canon prime we’d recently acquired. This proved handy as he was going to Laduree in a taxi with the couple just before the ceremony and needed travel light with a flexible cinematic style lens. Another crew member took the bulk of the film and sound recording equipment direct to Chelsea Old Town Hall. Thankfully our careful planning before the day ensured we had the right resources in the right place and we could provide continuous coverage of all the story elements. When it came to editing the footage in the studio a few months later, we thought about how one of Mengxuan’s friends took pictures on the day with a Polaroid camera. We decided to use this as a ‘motif’ and create a structure for the film around Polaroid moments. Using special effects we combined excerpts from the speeches with ‘pictures’ simulated from the video footage. We’re very pleased with the result and hope Mengxuan and Yizun are too!

Client Review

“We are so glad that we used Bloomsbury films to carry out the footage and film making for our wedding day. The guidance of the process is crystal clear before the day, and pricing is clearly itemised. Judging on our itinerary, they advised us to take an additional camera for a half day, which was proven to be very necessary on the day. The staff on the day arrived on time, were very friendly and professional. The delivery of the final production sticks to the promised timeline, and we are very happy…5 star performance from every angle, justifies every penny you spend, highly recommended”
